Too Cool for School

I was downloading the pictures on our SD card today and I came across this picture that Jeff took on Hudson's first day of Kindergarten. He cracks me up.

Hannah's Short Story

Mr. Linden's Library

He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late. In the early month of January 1996, a young girl named December walked into an anile library. December was a 12 year old girl who had just moved to London, England to live with her Grandma Violet. She was inquisitive and was anxious to see what was in and around she and her Grandma's new home. While walking around the neighborhood she discovered a building with a sign that said ''Library''. She loved reading so she went inside to check it out. Standing inside the doorway of the library, she looked around delighted at the sight of thousands of books.
It was an old two-story library that was dimly lit and smelled of old books and pine wood. There were rows and rows of shelves lined with books. In one corner of the downstairs, was a large table for reading at and in the opposite corner was a large desk covered with books that were waiting to be put in their proper place.
She was so enthralled by the sights and smells of the library, she barely noticed the man behind the large desk. He looked kindly at her and she noticed that his name tag said ''Mr. Linden''
''Hello dear, may I help you with something?'', Mr. Linden asked.
She smiled at him and replied,'' Oh, no thank you I am just looking around.''
She walked around the large room that was filled with so many wondrous books. As she slowly walked up and down the aisles, there was a particularly ancient looking book that caught her eye.
This book looked about 100 years old. It was extremely dusty and looked as if it hadn't been touched in years. December pulled the book off of the shelf and started to read it as Mr. Linden walked by. He looked from her to the book and said a word of warning. December decided after a few minutes of thinking that she would ignore Mr. Linden's warning. After all, it was only a book. She decided to take the book home. When she got to go to the large desk to check the book out, Mr. Linden wasn't there.
December waited about 5 minutes and then decided to go look for him. She walked around the library downstairs and couldn't find him. As she started up the stairs Mr. Linden suddenly appeared over the railing and told her not to come upstairs. Well naturally, December was an inquisitive girl so she immediately started to wonder why she wasn't allowed upstairs. She knew that Grandma Violet was probably waiting for her so she decided that she would check out the upstairs on her next visit.
Mr. Linden scurried down the stairs and avoided eye contact. They went to the desk to check out the book that she had chosen. As soon as he saw the book he warned her again by saying,'' Miss, I have to warn you about the book. It brings bad luck and trouble to all of its readers.'' December again decided to ignore him. She pulled the book from his shaky hands, smiled and thanked him and told him that she would see him next time.
As she headed for home she saw a box laying in the middle of the road that said for sale. From the box she heard little whimpering noises. So she opened the box, and inside the box was a little Chorkie puppy. He was black and light brown with a little white paw. He was really small so she guessed that he was the runt of the litter and that his owners didn't want him. As she picked the puppy up out of the box, he stopped whimpering and snuggled deep inside her jacket pocket.
She walked the rest of the way home with the puppy in her pocket. When she arrived home her Grandma Violet was making dinner and started fussing over December about where she had been and what she had been doing. December told her everything about the library but did not mention anything about the puppy still snuggled in her pocket. After they ate dinner, December grabbed a jar of milk, a bowl of meat and her book and went to her new room.
After she closed her door, she set the book down next to her bed and put the bowl of food on the floor. She then grabbed some old baby blankets and a small pillow. With that she made a small bed for the puppy under her bed so her Grandma Violet would not see him. December pulled the puppy out of her pocket and offered him some food which he took gratefully. When he had eaten all of the meat she unscrewed the top off the jar and poured some milk into the bowl for him to drink. While he was drinking she decided that she was going to keep him and name him, Grizzly. She knew that she would have to keep him hidden from her grandma for the time being.
While she got ready for bed she kept looking at the book. She eventually climbed into bed and grabbed the book. As she started to read she noticed that there was a green string in the middle of each and every page. She thought this was strange. December read about 20 out of 361 pages and then fell asleep she started dreaming about something curling around and around her so tight that she could scarcely breathe. She didn't realize that those green strings were really vines growing from the book. The vines soon began winding themselves tightly around her. When one vine got to her throat she woke up suddenly. She tried to scream but couldn't. Next to her bed Grizzly heard muffled noises and being a puppy went to check it out. He saw the vines and tried to pry off the one that was around his new owners neck. After about a minute or so he got it free and she was able to breathe and scream again. Her scream was just barely loud enough for her grandma to hear it. December's Grandma Violet came hurrying into the room and gave a little scream of her own. She quickly left the room and got the sharpest knife that they had to try and cut the vines away from December. December was, by that time, blue in the face from lack of oxygen. As her grandma started to cut December free, the vines decided to prey on something larger. They then grabbed hold of December's grandma.
A few roads down lived Mr. Linden. He hadn't been able to get the young girl and the book off his mind at all. He remembered the young girl and had heard of where she and her grandmother lived. He decided to go and check on them knowing what the book was capable of doing. When he got about 100 yards from the house he heard December's screams for help. He quickly knocked on the door of the nearby house to ask them to go and help him. When they finally agreed to help they could no longer hear December's screams for help.
Mr. Linden and the neighbors ran to the house and busted the door down. What they found was gruesome. Grandma Violet had deep gashes and bruises all over her lifeless body and she was lying in the middle of the living room floor, in a heap, dead! She was still clutching the knife in her now limp hand. The room looked as if she grabbed at everything around her to try and save herself from the vines. It was so hard to believe that the vines could and would do this to somebody or something. They took Grandma Violet's body to a couple of scientists so that they could analyze the body again. They could find not a single trace of December and her dog, Grizzly. After days of searching and investigating, they gave up trying to find them and decided that they were gone forever. Mr. Linden eventually decided too destroy the book so that nothing like this would ever happen again.

Little did he know, that the book dropped a tiny microscopic seed that would later become another deadly book...........

Thought I had Posted This a Few Weeks Ago...Silly Me!

So now that my parents have left California I have to keep up with my blog or I'll be in BIG trouble. It seems weird to think that they are really gone but what a great opportunity for them!

We have been busy the last few weeks. We finalized Halee's adoption and then had her birthday party-adoption celebration. It was a lot of fun. My cousin Jennifer's girls came and Hudson has the BIGGEST crush EVER on Christiana. They absolutely LOVE eachother. It is so dang fun to watch and listen to them play. We went to my cousin Brittany's wedding and when he asked her to dance she told him that she had been waiting for him to ask. All Hudson talked about before and after was how excited he was to see her and much he loves her. It is so darling!

We blessed Halee 2 weeks ago and had a brunch afterward. It was fun to have everyone here! I curled her hair with hot rollers and then finished it with a flower and feather, put her beautiful white dress on and her white clip clop shoes and she kept looking in the mirror saying "Ooooh pwetty!" It was a crack up! She looked like a beautiful little angel (don't let that fool you)! ;0)

Hannah was gone for 2 weeks at 2 different camps. The first week she went with the Kiwana's Club up to Blue Canyon. She had a lot of fun! The second week she went to girls camp with our old Dixon Ward up to Camp Ritchie. They were both great experiences for her.

I will post new pictures soon.

Halee's 2nd Birthday Collage

>

I'm not sure who had more fun with the doll house Hannah 11, Hudson 4 or Halee 2!

Please note that Hudson only played with the boy dolls...

Easter Pictures

Here are a couple of Easter pictures. We celebrated Easter at my mom and dad's. Better late than never!

Halee's Birthday

Today we celebrated Halee's 2nd birthday. She was so dang cute. She knew it was her special day! Hannah got her up this morning and sang Happy Brithday to her and gave her the lady bug mini pillow pet that she bought for her with her babysitting money. She is such an awesome sister! Halee brought me the pillow and started rubbing and saying "piwwo". She has been taking speech therapy and for her to say that is a BIG DEAL!!
After dinner we lit the 2 candles on her purple (her favorite color) cake and sang Happy Birthday which she happily joined in on. She blew out her own candles (a game that her therapist plays with her) all on her own. I gave her a slice of cake, which was chocolate. She took one bite and gagged. The crazy monkey does not like chocolate. She wouldn't touch the rest of the piece with a ten foot pole. She cracks me up!
Last week I found a Fisher Price Loving Family Grand Dollhouse with about 60 pieces on Craigslist for a awesome deal. I was ecstatic because that was what I had wanted to get for her. So tonight when we gave it to her she freaked out! All three kids were on the floor palying with it. I'm not sure who loved it more, Hannah, Hudson or Halee. She also got some dishes from Ikea for her little kitchen. She kept giving every one drinks and fried dolls. Sounds yummy huh?!
I have pictures but I will have to post them tomorrow.
We are so thankful to have Halee as a part oof our family! Happy Birthday sweet girl! We love you so very much and are so thankful that Heavenly Father sent you to our family! Her adoption will be finalized day after tomorrow. We are so very excited!

Funny Hudson Story

So I made home made cinnamon ice cream on Father's Day. This morning Hannah comes in and the conversation goes as follows:
Hannah: "Mom, who ate the rest of the ice cream?
Me: "Not me. Maybe Daddy did...hmmm...hey Hudson did you eat the rest of the ice cream this morning?
Hudson: (long pause) "What???" (another long pause accompanied by a very sheepish grin) "Yeah I did and it was the very bestest ice cream ever!"
I ask you how could I possibly mad at him? He was honest and complimented me all at once. I LOVE my crazy little family!

iPhone Posting

The saying "You learn something new every day." is applicable here. I didn't ever think of posting on my blog from my iPhone. Who knew?! Thanks Camille and Melissa!
So here is the last six months in the Blum family life in a "nutshell".
The kids are growing up WAY TOO FAST!!

Hannah will be in 7th grade come August. She is such a great kid! We are hoping to get her into a Charter school this coming school year so that she will be more challenged. She will be 12 in October.

Hudson will be starting kindergarten. Whoa! I think I just had an anxiety attack thinking about that! He is always busy! Never stopping. He is starting to be a big helper. He can drive me nuts one second and make me laugh and melt my heart in the next.

Our super exciting news on Halee is that she will be 2 this Tuesday and her adoption will be finalized on Thursday. She will officially be Halee Ila Blum. WOO HOO! We are so excited to have everything done in that department. Halee has also be doing speech therapy, occupational therapy and will be starting physical therapy next week.

Jeff has been deathly ill for over 3 months. He spent a week in the hospital with a severe fever reaching 105.5. The official diagnoses was "fever of unknown origin". Seriously? I didn't know that was a real diagnosis! They have run so many tests that I can't remember them all. They have gone from West Nile Virus, renal failure, liver problems, Lupus, pancreatic cancer and the current leader is Lyme's Disease. Back in March we found a deer tick in the car while we were in Davis. A day or two later he had two weird bites on his leg. At the time we thought that they were spider bites. A few days later he started getting really sick and quickly went down hill he was in the ER three times before they finally admitted him. It was very scary! One night he started talking about life insurance and such. He was so sick he thought that he wasn't going to make it. It has been very stressful to say the least! I finally found a Lyme's Disease specialist in San Francisco and took him. The doctor thought that it was probable enough to put him on some heavy duty antibiotics and run more tests. He has been gradually been improving day by day. He went back to work Monday for the first time in almost 3 months. It's been rough but he has been able to power through. Hopefully he will continue to improve. I am so thankful that he is still with us! I don't know what I would do without him! He is my very best friend and the love of my life!

Thank you to our family and friends that have been so supportive in every way from taking the kids so that I could be at the hospital with Jeff, providing meals, watching Tucker, and giving blessings. You all lightened my load more than you will ever know!

As for me. I haven't been doing much ;0) just being a wife, nurse, maid, mommy, psychiatrist, psychologist, doctor, researcher, teacher, hairstylist and all the other careers that life seems to be throwing at me. I am currently looking for a part time job until I can build my clientele base back up. All in all I wouldn't trade my life with anyone! I am thankful for the problems that I have! I came across a quote a couple of weeks ago just when I thought that I couldn't go on I was reminded that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers and knows the depth of our hearts. It been a very difficult day. I came across this on Face book about 2 weeks ago that my sister in law Laura had posted. She rarely posts anything and I had missed it the first time I scrolled through.

No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God . . . and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we come here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven....
Note: a comforting thought for those in challenging times

Just what my heart and soul needed to hear that night and an answer to my prayer. I love you all and am so thankful for each of you and for your love and support through these last few weeks.

Love to all. I will try to be better about updating our blog but no promises! You never know what monkey wrench will be thrown in!

Were Officially Settled

Okay people this move royally SUCKED!!!!! We have and extra kid, too much crap and as much as I don't want to face it I'm 3 years older than the last time we moved. This getting older thing is for the birds! Okay no more whining!

We found the ideally perfect house for our family. We are still in West Sac. Still four bedrooms, the bathrooms all have only ONE sink HALLELUJAH!! Less to clean. The previous owner had already converted the garage into a man cave (so he called it) so we turned it into my studio. It has turned out awesome! I love it. I have a lock on the door so the kids can't come in and out. Jeff and I did all the plumbing and flooring totally and completely ourselves. We are getting to be experts at this stuff. I have speakers in the ceiling for soft relaxing music. I will have to take pictures and post them. If you haven't seen me in a while. Now would be a fabulous time to come and get your hair done and be pampered in peace! The other good thing is that I'm now right off of Jefferson Blvd. Across from the Nugget and Target shopping center. I miss those of you that have gone else where! I know it was a far drive and also that my children probably drove you nuts. For that I'm sorry and I understand. My cell # is 916-370-3422 and home is 916-572-0017.

Halle News
We have our first homestudy this coming Friday and the second one next Wednesday. Hopefully we will have everything finalized in February. She is growing like a weed. This little skinny peanut can really put the food away. She is walking and getting into EVERYTHING! She will be 18 months on December 21 so she will officially be able to attend nursery at church.

Hudson News
Hudson turned four on November 27. My goodness where does the time go??? He is my joy and pain! The other day I was getting after him for something and he turned around and said to me "YOUR NOT MY MOMMY ANYMORE!!!! I'm going to go find a new mommy!!!" I pointed to the front door and said "Fine. Good luck trying to find a mommy who will love you and take care of you like I do and who will put up with your crap." I think my response surprised him. He went up to his room. The next morning he was snuggling with me and he siad that I was the very best momma ever and that he was sorry for saying mean things to me the day before. He really has his sweet loving moments.

Hannah News
Hannah had to move schools. At first she was pretty angry but once she started at the new school she was shocked when she realized how many friends she already had at the new school because of church and the swim team. She is doing awesome. We had her parent teachers conference with all of her teachers a few weeks ago and she had all A's and 1 B+. All of her new teachers raved about her, what an assett she has been to their classes and how wonderfully she fit in. Jef and I Are so relieved! That was our biggest worry.

Christmas News
We are leaving for Utah for Christmas. Jeff's whole family will be together to celebrate Harold and Renon's 50th wedding anniversary. We are staying in a huge cabin somewhere between Heber City and Park City (I think). It should be a lot of fun. We are having family pictures done while we are there so you all will get a valentine letter instead of Christmas. I hope that each of you and your sweet families have the best Christmas ever! We love and miss you all!

Love,

Noel

New Home for Buster

We found a great home for Buster. They have kids and and a little Yorkie so he will have a buddy to play with. The family fell in love instantly with him. So although we are sad we are happy knowing that he will be well loved and taken care of.
